Find All

Find All icon

This extension is still in the sandbox at Mozilla Add-ons.  You can help get it published by posting a review there.  Thanks!

This add-on replaces the find bar's Highlight All button with a powerful Find All button, which highlights all search terms found and displays them in an easy to view list.  The list displays a few words before and after the search term so you can quickly see the context of each match.  It also shows a total of how many times the search term was found on the page.

How to use Find All

Once it is installed, start Firefox and click on Edit menu > Find In This Page...
In the Find bar at the bottom of the screen, type in a word or phrase to search for and then click on the Find All button. A list will appear underneath the Find bar with the results of your search, and all matches will be selected on the web page.  Also, the total number of matches appears in the Find bar status area.  You can scroll through the list to easily see the context of each found result and jump to the part of the web page you want by clicking on a list item.  The list may be made larger or smaller by dragging the separator bar above the Find bar.

By default, the Find All button replaces the Highlight All button on the Find bar.  If you would like to have the Highlight All button back on the Find bar, you may set this preference in the Find All add-on options dialog (Tools menu > Add-ons, click Options button on Find All).  You may also set a preference to not show the list of found results when the Find All button is clicked (only the total number of matches will show in the Find bar status area).

Find All also works in the browser's View Source window.

Is not compatible with "Find In Numbers" https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6738

Justin Rodes on 22-May-08

@BlindWanderer: Don't worry, Find All includes the functionality of Find In Numbers.

So it does though you are required to click Find All to see it, and if you use the Next & Previous buttons it goes away.

Could you make it optional that it closes the Find Bar when clicking the "Find All" button again.

Now if only "Find Toolbar Tweaks" and "/Find Bar/" were FF3 compatible. I really miss the double click to close and the find history, not even mentioning searching with regex.

When clicking the "Find All" button again, the Find Bar will close with the results list. And I think click the "Find All" button to close the results list and click the "Close" button to close them all will be better.

Is it possible to change the highlight color on the main page? Currently it is gray and very difficult to see.

What a tool for a lazy reader like me. I'd use it every 15 minutes on average. I just hope it gets even better

I'm always looking for new add-ons(extensions) to make my web activity easier and if I hadn't been looking for some other scrolling tab add-on, I'd have never found this incredibly useful tool.

@shathomas: Currently the highlight color depends on your operating system's highlight color. You can't change it with Find All, but this is a feature I may add in the future. As a work-around, you can open the Find All options (in your Add-ons list) and enable the Highlight All button, so you can use both buttons.
